I.N.S.E.C.T.
Summercamp 2024

Exploring Vibration as a Sensory Multispecies perspective
The I.N.S.E.C.T. Summercamp, now in its third year, brings together people from diverse backgrounds, e.g. design researchers, artists, architects, ecologists, biologists, biotremologists and more. We call ourselves the I.N.S.E.C.T. Collective and we hope to make this annual event a critical locus for building and sharing new methodologies for a changing scholarly practice and world. We are particularly interested in engaging with the local ecosystem of the Bidstrup forest.
Theme
This years focus will evolve around the Research Network VIBRA and its attempts to bridge Multispecies Design, Inclusive Studies, Insect Vibration Communication and Vibroacoustics.
Location
As usual, the event will take place at a scoutcamp and farm in Hvalsø, Denmark where we explore deeper relationships with the local species of the Bidstrup forest, further developing our camp methodology.
Methodology
We are continuously developing a framework for the summercamps that is guiding us into deeper connection and understanding of the local ecosystem. We are using Co-creation and Embodiment, as well as a specific perspective to the local insect species. You can read more about the camp methodology in the articles we published.
The camp is based on methods of co-creation, which means that this event is open for you to explore your interests, ideas, and questions, so we can investigate and manifest them together. Our co-creation ranges from setting the food menu, designing activities and focus groups on particular topics, to arranging the schedule for the day. To create a successful co-created experience, we are looking for participants who can enthusiastically contribute to planning before the event (from May onwards, online), contributing during the camp (August 24 – 30 in person), and reflecting upon the experience (from September, online). Our goal is to create a community where we support one another, create continuing discussions and creative work by co-creating projects, events, research publications, artworks, etcetera.
Registration/Application
I.N.S.E.C.T. Community members will be able to secure their place if they register before April 30th. If you are new to us and would like to co-create this year’s camp, please tell us more about yourself by filling out this form.
